Obesity And Cancer

By Rey Vetangelo

Obesity is as a social and cultural trend is increasing at an alarming rate in the United States. Studies show that over half the adult population of our country is overweight or obese. What is even more disturbing is that many of these individuals are developing chronic and even terminal illnesses that are exacerbated by their excess weight.

Inside your stomach and throughout your digestive tract, there are millions of microbes that feed off what you eat. The bacteria culture in your gut can not only break down the food you eat so your body can make energy from it, but the culture can also be responsible for a person gaining weight.

As mentioned, the microbes in your gut help your body produce energy from the food you eat. Therefore, this bacteria culture in your stomach is affected by what you eat-if you eat more of one type of food, your body will develop microbes that feed off things in that type of food.

Insulin is increased in the bodies of those people who are obese. This insulin may increase the risk of tumors in the body and will throw off the balance of the insulin in the blood. This is one of the major reasons people that are obese get diabetes.

Many people haven't ever heard of this hormone but it is one that is very important nonetheless. It is really the hormone that inhibits or stimulates cell growth. Adipokines are known to help prevent cancer and maintain a balance in the body. It is not surprising that this hormone is not as prominent in obese individuals.

Fat cells can have a direct or indirect effect on tumor growth regulators. Once again these cells can throw off the balance of the body and thereby compromise the integrity of the defense system of the body.

To decrease your risk of developing cancerous cells in your body, the obvious choice is to lose weight. By managing your diet and incrementally increasing your physical activities, you can significantly reduce your risk of cancer. For some, weight loss surgery can provide a regulated way to lose weight and keep it off.

But what is it about these microbes that helps us lose weight? Another simple answer: we feed them different things. When you think about the type of diet that makes a person gain weight, the things included in it are all very similar, and there are relatively few fruits and vegetables. To encourage the best microbe culture, we need to eat a wide variety of foods so that our microbial culture can be diverse. When that culture is diverse, the microbes can help us lose weight and keep it off. And the best part of all is that these cultures grow fairly quickly.

Although weight loss surgery in Mexico, America and Canada are growing in popularity, there is a much simpler way to lose weight and keep it off. It's not always the easiest thing to do, especially if you have a very hectic lifestyle, but it is possible for everyone to eat more fruits and vegetables and keep themselves at a healthy weight.
