Have You Been Inadvertently Damaging Your Diet?

By Jason Herring

We all know that the top foods to take in when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These would be the foods that give us all protein and energy. They keep our bodies nutritionally well balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to lose our fat at the gym. Are you aware, however, that a number of the foods you've been thinking are good for your diet could actually be making you retain weight? They could even be making you gain more weight! Here are a few of the foods that you could be eating which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

You usually are not really aided by Sports Drinks. You've likely been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your body feel greater after a workout. Many doctors agree, though, that if your training is fewer than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are full of calories and sugar and a bunch of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural and healthy diet. Instead, look at consuming some chocolate milk. Your body employs the sugar inside the chocolate for muscle tissue repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Protein Shakes aren't your friend. So many people assume that consuming a protein shake is a good way to stop cravings when it isn't meal time. The truth is that if you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake does is clog your system with protein. Converse to popular belief, protein isn't stored as muscular fiber, it is stored as fat. This means that if you have already taken in too much protein that day, your system will merely store what it doesn't need in your fat cells and that doesn't help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't as good for you as you may well think. It's generally considered that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread along with lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is crammed full of preservatives and also about a third of your recommended daily sodium intake. This is often specifically dangerous if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of choosing deli meat, choose home grilled chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you'll shell out more money for these selections but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a lot of things that we imagine will help us shed pounds like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your physician which items are the best to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about what you eat and therefore are good to your entire body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
