Using Speed Ropes For Your Exercise Routine

By Traci Witt

Jump roping is a sport that is still pretty young. At least on a national competition level anyway. While it has been around for a very long time it was not until recently that more and more people took it up and made it a valid sport. It was then that speed ropes started to hit the scene and everybody wanted in. Whenever there is a way to do something faster or bigger, it will usually grab someone's attention.

People who generally use some sort of endurance routine will have speed ropes in their workout. They are great for adding speed, endurance, foot quickness, lower body strength, and a variety of other things. They are no longer just for kids on the playground or for fun out on the sidewalk. Even the double and triple jumpers have taken it to the next level.

Initially for fun, kids around the world picked up on jumping rope. It was also a method of exercise used by people in certain sports. Athletes who were looking to increase their speed and endurance often took to this exercise as a way to do just that. It has even been featured in more than a few movies about boxers, runners, and even baseball and football players.

The speed ropes sold today are of such a high quality that they probably would not even be recognizable by someone who participated in the sport even ten years ago. Using a rope is even a thing of the past, even though it is what they are called. Cables are the in thing now and not just any cable but high tech thin and fast cables.

You never need much to do this type of exercise. Even if you do not want to get too crazy with it right off the bat, you can start off slow. As a matter of fact, that is the recommendation for people who have not done this before or who does not have a lot of experience with it. It can be extremely tiring and really wear you out fast.

Those who add this to their routines are usually looking to burn calories and lose weight. The high endurance workouts can be short or long, it all depends on what your end goal is. People can start with a simple 5 minute workout that builds foot speed and quickness, lower body strength and endurance.

Some will also do these in 30 second intervals so as to give themselves a small break in between. This can be helpful because until you start doing these you really have no clue how tiring it can be. Looks can be deceiving and using these workouts will surely build strength but they also take a lot of energy.

They are made for low friction and to help you get the most from your workout. Buying the right speed ropes can be a simple thing to do as they are sold almost everywhere. You can find them on the Internet or at the local gym or department store. Once you get a pair and add this to your routine you will notice a change very quickly.
